This beautiful little rock called Jamaica is dear to me. Known globally for its vibrant culture, year-round summer weather, delectable cuisine and undisputable athletic dominance regionally and internationally.
But we have some major internal work to do - we need to be kind, show respect and civility to each other.
What are your thoughts/suggestions on how to make Jamaica a better country socially, politically and economically?
I created the acronym DICKA culture: Decency/Decorum (used interchangeably), Integrity, Courtesy, Kindness and Accountability.
Perhaps it can replace the prevailing gun, murder, corruption and vulgar culture.
A house is just a physical building. A home has rules, structure and people who love, support and protect each other.
The standard Jamaican family unit seem to be fast dwindling particularly among the low to middle class citizens.
Parents are the biggest culprits where the social and cultural decay and regression of Jamaica are concerned.

Parents who set low to no standards and are poor examples for their children to follow. Parents who have armed their children with zero to weak life and social skills.
Too many Jamaican women have been irresponsible even callous in their singular major role of bringing life and taking full charge of their reproductive health. Equally, too many of Jamaica's males have checked out, they have failed to take their rightful place in the home and in society. We need strong masculine men to head families, shape communities, build the country. It's about time we hold real men accountable - weak, irresponsible, lazy, coward, low character males should have no credible place in any society. Women who allow such males to "father" their children ought to be ashamed! What are you teaching your children? Where are your values, principles, standards? Stop normalising uncouth/dregs lifestyle, comportment, utterances etc. IT'S TIME FOR A CHANGE!

Let's be candid. Jamaica's inept politicians (on both sides) have for decades sat comfortably with feet crossed and arms folded as the country is reduced to a daily active crime scene, paired with social and cultural denigration. Jamaica's elected officials have watched passively as citizens literally waste away. The officials are too busy enriching themselves, ensuring that their children are set for life and those in their social circle get a piece of the tainted pie. The members of Gordon House CAN make Jamaica better, but they have selfishly opted not to. They can pass laws, they can finance the various means by which social and cultural values can be promoted, rewarded and normalized. They can add subjects to the school curriculum as a standard part of the Jamaican education system which will essentially force the nation's children to learn about their civic duties to include high social/cultural values/practices and for all Jamaicans to have a full understanding and appreciation of the tenets of a true democracy. Jamaican politicians have for decades benefitted significantly from the ignorance of the average Jamaican. This must change now!!
My desire to see a better/courteous Jamaica is not a recent occurrence. The book (pictured above was written in 2014) is transformational, and I would love to get it in the hands of as many Jamaicans as is possible.

Has it occurred to you that many Jamaicans simply do not know better? Hence, they act out of ignorance. Such persons have been deprived of basic social and cultural socialization in their homes which is supposed to teach them to be rounded, balanced citizens. They then look to the community but that's futile and the public-school system is otherwise focused.
Let's say YES to;
-Common courtesies
-Good manners/Social graces
-Politeness/Civility
-Decency/Respect
-Decorum/ Ambition
-Education/ Kindness
- Stable families/ Healthy relationships
-Feminine women/ Masculine men
-Honest living/ Being ethical
-Being punctual/ Respect time
-Dressing appropriately
-Doing what is right
We start by rejecting lewd, vulgar, violent/gangster music and persona - make these UNCOOL!
- We need to promote and celebrate loving stable traditional family unit - children model what they see.
- We need to normalize D.I.C.K.A: Decency, Integrity, Courtesy, Kindness and Accountability.
Of course it won't be easy, but I'm of the view that significant tangible/intangible social and cultural changes are possible in a short decade. With political will and a motivated population, Jamaica can realize a D.I.C.K.A culture.
- Being ambitious, successful and having an honest means of income/employment.
- Being skilled, talented and educated
- Being appropriately groomed/dressed in public
It is an irrefutable reality that numerous Jamaicans have knowingly/unknowingly adopted the absolute worst aspects of the Black American culture. There appears to be a deliberate, bold and unwavering mission to self-destruct and tear down the traditional Jamaican culture in the process - and by extension weaken the social/cultural pillars of the country. This attitude goes against everything we (Jamaicans) know to be sensible, intelligent and right. The destructive attitudes of which I refer are reflected in their demeanor, dress, speech and music. It appears to be a sprint to the bottom - it's time to strategize our way up!
Jamaica has long been an each man for himself society in addition to the thick class divide.
Notwithstanding, if all social, political, religious and academic partners in Jamaica came to a consensus to unite team Jamaica, what a team that will be? What a country Jamaica would be? Regrettably, all the bodies/institutions that can bring about real change in Jamaica have largely been mum, absent or dormant. Jamaica is too small a geography and tiny a population to be grappling with the ills that we as a country are afflicted by. Think about it, a population of 2.9 million and crime is where it is. Too many students graduate high school and are unqualified for an entry level job. Something is seriously amiss here.
Each Jamaican should ask him/herself "what can I do to better Jamaica?"
My answer? I can share what I know. I can write books. I can be a positive example/upstanding citizen.
As a people we must start thinking - SOLUTION. That's why I created this page.
What can you do to make Jamaica a better society, a better country?
I implore you to start today. Thank you.
